Notes from the Rotary Luncheon Meeting   March 29 2018
President Andre chaired the meeting
Today 13 Rotarians were at the meeting giving 36% attendance.
Club Business
International Youth Exchange
Andre reported that this was successful even though they arrived a day late because of bad weather in Nova Scotia.  The students enjoyed skiing and zip lining. He thanked Rotarians who had provided food for a meal for the students.
Executive Meeting
An executive meeting will be held later in the month after the Easter holidays
Auction Meeting
Maureen had e-mailed Lisa, banquet manager at Marble regarding the meal.
Elaine followed this with a meeting and a possible menu.   The committee will discuss this at the next meeting to be held in the next couple of weeks.  A possible ticket cost will be in the $50-$55 range.   Jackie will be looking after the tickets. 
All Rotarians should be collecting donations during April.
Guests and Guest Speaker
Elaine welcomed her guest speaker, Krista Hansen, manager of the Arts and Culture Centre.
Krista began by talking about the provincial Drama Festival to be held from April 2 – 7 at the Centre. She spoke of the drama groups from across the island and Labrador who would be presenting plays. The local Off Broadway Players start the festival on April 2 with the play Rumours. This is a farce that will be previewed on Sunday evening.
She then went on to speak about how this is the 50thanniversary year of the Centre that opened on March 27 1968.   She outlined the various stage shows coming to Corner Brook and the LAWN art shows and activities.    Community involvement is important to the Centre and a wide variety of theatre shows are offered during the year as well as local events.
Karen thanked Krista for her interesting talk
The Rotary wheel was spun and good new stories shared before the meeting was adjourned.

Rotary Auction
The Corner Brook Rotary Auction will be held on May 5 at Marble Mountain The theme will be Mexican as Cinco de Mayo, May 5, is an annual celebration in Mexico.More details will follow.
Training for Club Leaders
This training is to be held on Saturday, April 7 at 10.00am (8.30am for Execs) at Corner Brook Regional High School. Rotarians interested in attending should contact Andre or Carman Carroll-
Rotary Friendship Exchange to District 5020 -Vancouver Island & Washington State (coast) May 9 - 24, 2018.
Message from PDG Tom McCaughey:
As we get closer to the departure date for our return visit to District 5020, we now have openings for others who may wish to join the team. This will be from 9th May on Vancouver Island and wind up on the 24thin Seattle, Washington.
As you will recall a team from this district visited us last fall. Many of the comments that we have received have been full of praise for the hospitality that they received.  Our contact there has provided us with a wonderful program.
