Guest Speaker
Jackie introduced the guest speaker Glenda Simms, the Event Coordinator for the City of Corner Brook. Glenda spoke about the many events planned this year for the Corner Brook Jigs & Wheels Festival to be held from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, August 4. She began by talking about the big celebration Blame it on Broadway planned for Friday evening with live music from 6pm until 2am, food trucks, restaurants and bars, which are all set to celebrate outside to Kick-Off the Jigs and Wheels Festival.
She spoke of one new event on Saturday at the Blow Me Down Ski Park where a Tree Party 2024 will be held from 2pm to 9pm to celebrate summer in the woods with music, guided walks, Big Foot Scavenger Hunt and Fairy Talks. This party will be family friendly with music performances, fairy fun, forest activities, sword demonstrations and art installations. On the last day Sunday, August 4 there will be a family fun day at Bartlett’s Park.
Glenda went to talk about the Fall Colours Festival in September. This will be held when cruise ships are in port with music playing all day until 9pm. There will be vendors on West Street and the Majestic Lawn. Glenda hopes residents will chat with the cruise visitors and welcome them to the city.
At the end of her talk Glenda gave Rotarians a gift bag to celebrate 75 years of Confederation.
Jackie thanked Glenda for her talk and gift before the meeting adjourned.
