Notes from the Rotary Meeting  12.30pm Thursday, July 9 2020

President Chris welcomed Rotarians to the first lunch meeting at the Glynmill Inn since March.       The Inn followed covid instructions with 2 Rotarians to each rectangular table  spread throughout the room.  After the meal, President Chris chaired the  business meeting.

New President’s Thoughts on the Coming Year

Chris began by speaking of three aspects of Rotary---Service, Social Activities and Rotary Meetings

Service

The making of face masks by Rotarians, friends  and the community has boosted  awareness  of the work done by Rotary. The monies raised has enabled the Club  to meet its local financial obligations in 2020-21.  Chris then led a discussion about possible ways to fundraise in the coming year. Gerry suggested maybe a fall auction would be a possibility but this is something that could be addressed in September and would depend on the covid regulations then in place. An on-line auction is another fundraiser suggested for the fall. Rotarians were asked to think of possible fundraisers for the coming year and to share their thoughts with the executive.

Rotary Polio Tulip Project

Coordinator Olaf spoke about the sales to date with over 100 tulip boxes having been sold. He emphasised that he would like weekly numbers of new sales and an order is only confirmed when payment has been received. Payment can be cash or a cheque to the Rotary Club of Corner Book. he will give the monies received to Jackie who will forward the full amount to the district project treasurer. All orders and monies must be given to Olaf by the end of July.  World Polio Day is October 24 for those who wish to plant their bulbs on that day.

Summer Rotary Meetings

Chris has spoken with the Glynmill Inn about holding Rotary meetings in the Inn. These will go ahead unless there is a clash because at the moment there is only one room open to groups.  It was decided that the meetings would be held every two weeks  at 12.30pm at the Glynmill Inn unless advised otherwise and the dates would be July 23, August 6 and 20th. Jackie will send  emails about the meetings

Verbon would continue as Program Chair and Gerry would be the Sergeant of Arms for the coming year.  Honorary Rotarian Martin has agreed to be a consultant to the executive and club.

Social Activity

A BBQ is tentatively planned for August 27 but this is dependent on the covid regulations at that time

The meeting was adjourned  at 1.30pm
