Notes from the Rotary Meeting 12.30pm Thursday, September 12, 2024 President Jackie chaired the meeting. Guests Katie Healey and prospective member Dave Luther were welcomed There was a winner this week for the Toonie West Quest weekly draw. Guest Speaker Rotarian Olaf introduced guest speaker Nicole Fougère, the new Executive Director of the Rotary Arts Centre, RAC who spoke about the Rotary Arts Centre’s recent activities and the new changes and innovations she plans for the Centre During lunch Nicole asked Rotarians and guests to think of what they like best about living in Corner Brook and then what Rotarians love about Rotary. These ideas were exchanged and posted on a poster. Nicole continued by noting the things that the Rotary Arts Centre loves are Innovation, and Community and Arts Engagement. She hopes this year there will be more excellent music, extraordinary exhibitions, meaningful community engagement, films with panel discussions, and community events at the Rotary Arts Centre. A new program this year is the Artist in Residency program. This year three emerging artists, one artist from Halifax and two local artists are participating in this program. Nichole focuses on creativity and giving back so is planning more community art classes and family programs including some being free. She would like to see more inclusion and indigenous connections with the RAC and more community partnerships. She is hoping there will be more theatre engagements including dance in the future. Nichole is hoping with more engagements there will be more volunteerism which will lead to sustainability for the Centre. The Rotary Arts Centre is for the community and is a place to which everyone in the community should feel they belong. Nicole answered several questions before being thanked by Elaine and the meeting was adjourned. |
