Notes from the Rotary Meeting 12.30pm Thursday, July 8, 2021
President Chris greeted everyone to the first meeting of the Rotary year 2021- 22.
Club Business
CB Nuit, September 2021
Chris explained that Louise Gauthier, CB Nuit 2021 chair, had sent a letter to the Club to see if again Rotary would be a sponsor for the CB Nuit Mentorship Program. He explained the request and discussion followed. It was decided that this year Rotary would again donate $500 towards CB Nuit.
Rotary End Polio Now Tulip Campaign
Chair Olaf gave an up-to-date report that 119 boxes of tulips have been ordered but there are still boxes of tulips available. He would like to know ASAP if anyone would like more boxes of tulip bulbs. Last year in the district, the Club was the best seller of tulip bulb boxes, and this year has done well pre-selling boxes of bulbs. He would also like all payment for ordered bulbs as soon as possible. Contact Olaf at 634-2124 if anyone would like to add to the order but ordering and payment must be given to Olaf by July 22nd.

President’s Report 2020-21
President Chris gave his report on the Corner Brook Rotary Club in 2020 – 21.
He began by speaking of the bi-weekly meetings held at the Glynmill Inn during the year which have worked very well. The Club compared to other clubs has been fairly active even under different covid regulations. During covid, under then President Trina’s leadership the club raised enough money by making masks to support its endeavours financially during this year.
The club tried to fulfill its mandate ‘Service before Self’ during the year.
In September, the Club gave $500 to support the virtual CB Nuit 2020 Mentorship Program. Musical theatre university student Kate Sanders was mentored for her performed interpretive dance that was videoed for the CB Nuit festival.
The club was the best seller in the Rotary District, of boxes of tulip bulbs to support the End Polio Now Campaign. This project is continuing again this year under chair Olaf. Bulbs were distributed in the fall and to commemorate World Polio Day October 24th a proclamation was signed at City Hall to note the day and donated bulbs were planted by Rotarians and City Councillors around the concrete base for the city sign on West Street.
Rotarians have assisted Xavier House with its Drive-In Bingo twice. The first Bingo was held in October and then also in May when Rotary shared in the profit. Rotarians helped sell Bingo sheets, assisted with crowd control etc. because covid regulations were in effect both times.
In the Spring the major activity was the online Rotary Auction under chair Linda. This was a new venture with handbid.com that was extremely successful. Thanks go to the committee noting chair Linda, Andre IT expert and data in-putter and proof-reader Elaine, all Rotarians who canvassed for donations, photographers Jim and Neil, Rotarians and spouses for donations and in fact all who help made this auction successful. Many, many thanks!!

Rotary Read A-Long through a donation for books from Grenfell Campus given to Sacred Heart School for classroom libraries.
Adventures in Citizenship in which the winner of the 2020 High School Speak-off participated in the virtual Conference sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ottawa.
Social activities have been limited because of covid restrictions but last summer a BBQ was organised by Gerry, Verbon and Jackie at the Corner Brook Port Building patio. The weather was good, and the evening was greatly enjoyed by everyone.
Chris continued by looking towards the coming year.
It is hoped to hold another Rotary social activity at the Port building patio during the summer. The fundraiser auction will be reviewed and discussed during the fall with the hope to hold another in 2022. A usual highlight of the spring is the Rotary Music Festival and there are hopes that this will be able to happen in 2022. Other social activities to raise monies for a particular project will be considered. One of the major concerns will be membership this year as sadly three members had to resign this past year.
The executive for the new year will remain the same but a PR director is needed to look at social media and publicity.

The meeting ended with Jim spinning the Rotary Wheel as good news stories were shared and then the meeting was adjourned.
