On March 24, Rotary Club of Corner Brook President Dr Chris Healey presented a cheque for $500 to Bernie Park Grade 3 teacher at Sacred Heart Elementary School, Curling. Each year the Rotary Club organises a Read A-Long for an elementary school in the Corner Brook area.  This year the school selected was Sacred Heart Elementary School
The cheque donated by Grenfell Campus was given to the school to buy classroom library books for each of the nine Sacred Heart classrooms. The classroom teachers select and buy books from this donation.
Normally Rotarians and friends of Rotary go to the school to read in each classroom a story or chapter selected by the classroom teacher from one of the purchased books.
In non-covid times special guests such as Leif the Lucky, RNC representative, fireman, Corner Brook mayor Jim Parsons and others are invited to come along to visit the classrooms to talk with the students. The aim is to encourage students to enjoy reading and learning.
This year it is hoped if Rotarians cannot read in person, then they can meet the students virtually.
